Costa Rica is a contracting state to the ICSID Convention:

  • Signature: 29 September 1981
  • Deposit of Ratification: 27 April 1993
  • Entry into Force: 27 May 1993
  • On 27 April 1993, Costa Rica informed ICSID that "there may only be recourse to [the ICSID Convention] where all existing administrative or judicial remedies have been exhausted."
  • Pursuant to Article 13(1) of the ICSID Convention Costa Rica has made the following panel designations effective until 26 July 2016:
    - Dr. Rodrigo BARAHONA ISRAEL: Doctor and Professor of Law
    - Judge Thomas BUERGENTHAL (U.S.A. Nationality): Member, International Court of Justice; Former President, Inter-American Court of Human Rights
    - Mr. Rodrigo OREAMUNO: Former First Vice President of Costa Rica; Former Alternate Justice, Supreme Court of Justice of Costa Rica

  • Deposit of Ratification: 26 October 1987
